Player window. These instructions were written for Media Player 11.
These transmissions are being received by a scanner in northern Kanawha County in
West Virginia. While you may be able to hear some departments being dispatched, you
will likely only be able to hear the dispatch side of the conversation. The above feed is
delayed by approximately 11 seconds due to buffering.

155.145 - Kanawha Fire 1 (dispatch) - Priority channel
154.280 - Kanawha Fire 3 (tactical / fireground channel)

Winamp supports alpha tags from scanners. While alpha tags are not currently being
used, we may be using them in the future as upgrades are made.

See below for
information on
how to display
real-time scanner
information for
this scanner feed
like this ---->
Alternate streaming method 1 (real-time view like above):
Go to www.proscan.org, then download and install the free Proscan Client
Install then run the client
In the "Scanner Over IP" tab enter the following:
Server IP address or name: radioscanner.bounceme.net
Server Port: 8006
Click Start
This is a real-time view of the face of the scanner, and real-time audio. This
can also be run from a flash drive, which allows you to listen in without
installing the software on a computer (like a public computer or a computer
at work). Just copy the installation directory to the flash drive and run it
from there.
To leave this up on your PC all the time, Click View - Always on Top, then
Click View - Display Only (Borderless). Then you can park it in one of the
corners of your screen.
UPDATE - 11/25/07
The scanner banks that are turned on at any given time will vary. If I am working on the
local server, all banks will likely be turned on. However, in order to avoid missing any
transmissions due to the delay in the priority channel kicking in, I will normally have all
banks turned off except for bank 1 (Kanawha Fire). For an accurate representation of
the current banks, use the Proscan client as described in "Alternate Streaming
Method 1" Using that method of streaming, you will be able to view the front of the
actual scanner via the Internet (see image above).
I have also made Kanawha Fire 1 the priority channel for all banks, since that was the
reason that I created this feed in the first place.
UPDATE - 2/4/09
If this your first visit here, be sure to read the information below on
how to receive these feeds, and for a list of frequencies that are
carried here. If you are returning, you'll be glad to know that (I think)
all of the issues that I previously had with the Windows Media Player
feed and the ProScan client have been resolved.
In the future, I plan to also carry the APCO-25 (digital) radio system
once it is fully utilized here in Kanawha County. Even then, I'll be
looking at some serious cash in upgrades (a digital scanner, mast
and antenna, and sound card will be in the $700 - $800 range) so the
feed will only materialize as money becomes available... but I'm
certain that will be no time soon.
Drop me a line at chris@firestormphoto.com and let me know what
improvements you'd like to see, or just let me know that you are
listening (and what city you are located in, please.) - Chris
